Tenuate is an appetite suppressant. It is prescribed for short-term use (a few weeks) as part of an overall diet plan for weight reduction.
Patients with body mass index (BMI) 30 kg/m2 or more may take Tenuate as a supplement to dietetic treatment.
Tenuate comes as a regular and extended-release (long-acting) tablet. Tenuate usually is taken three times a day, 1 hour before meals (regular tablets), or once a day in midmorning (extended-release tablets).
In order to keep the lost weight from returning, changes in diet and exercise must be continued after the weight has been lost.
